The water in Utrecht is of excellent quality, and drinking it is completely safe. The tap in the kitchen is a quooker which dispenses normal water, boiling water, cooled water, and sparkling water.
Cold and warm water
Normal water functions in the regular way using the tap. Up is cold water, and down is hot water.
Boiling water
To get boiling water from the tap directly, press the ring around the neck of the tap twice and then turn the ring. The LED below the ring should glow red. Be careful, this is actual boiling water! There is around 3 litres in the reservoir so feel free to use it for cooking as well.
Cooled water
In the summer it's nice to have extra cold water. For this, you need to press, wait, and then turn the ring around the neck of the tap. The LED below the ring will be blue.
Sparkling water
The tap can also dispense sparkling water. Press the ring down and immediately turn it. The LED below the ring will pulsate blue. Please be mindful: this uses CO2 from a canister, which needs to be refilled if it is empty.
